Such a serious law. Do you guys agree to this?

New law to end illegal downloading of music and movies
Source: TheStar Online, 26th Nov 2010

KUALA LUMPUR: The free-and-easy days of illegal downloading of music and movies may soon be over. A proposed new law will enable Internet Service Providers (ISP) to suspend or terminate the Internet accounts of P2P (peer-to-peer) users.

This new law called the ISP Liability act, will be tabled in Parliament next month, according to Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) chairman Norman Halim.

RIM has been lobbying the Government for an ISP Liability act for the past 5 years as illegal online downloads have been cannibalising the legitimate sales of music, worldwide.

“The act makes the ISPs responsible for curbing online piracy. The ISPs will be fined if they don’t take action against illegal downloaders. The ISPs have the technology to track P2P users,” said Norman.

However, he said that the fine amount had yet to be determined.

ISPs will send two warning letters to illegal downloaders. Should the downloaders still persist, the Internet access will be suspended or even terminated.

“Other countries that have such an act have seen their respective music industries recover. One good example would be South Korea,” he said.

What happened to Limewire?

Have you guys noticed this?

What happened to Limewire? Seems like it is under some sort of injunction.

I wonder how does the company actually make money?

People just use it to download stuff. Not like they pay the company anything.

Any idea how such P2P stuff works? Haha.. I'm so oblivious to IT stuff. Don't really know what's going on.

Resident Evil 4: After Life

The sequel hasn't ended yet! Resident Evil: Afterlife. What do you guys think about it?

There is so many sequel to it until I can't really remember which is which anymore.

Is the movie nice? Partly yes.

I really like the moves by Alice. Even after she had been injected with the T-virus neutralizing antibody, which means she no longer have the self healing power anymore and the superfast speed in fighting, but she still can really move! Haha..

Now, the story plot? Booooooooooooo.... nothing new. Walking pale zombies trying to get their hands onto living humans. Trying to bite them and infected them with the vicious T-virus. Oh ya, this time there is a new type of zombie, the ones which the weird looking head. I remember seeing those while playing the PS2: Resident Evil 4.

What happened at the end? I really don't know! Seriously what happened? Alice broadcast saying the ship is safe for people seeking refuge then TONNES of umbrella corp fighter helicopters came. So? Another sequel? hahaha...

30 Days of Night - Review

Just finished watching a movie called 30 Days of Night: Dark Days.

It's basically a movie about a female vampire called Lilith who causes the spread of her species which kills many innocent human beings.

The story all started out in Alaska when Stella and her boyfriend was attacked by Lilith and her vampires. Stella managed to survive 30 days of being attacked. But her boyfriend was turned into a vampire, and the entire Alaskan town was destroyed.

Unlike others who turned into vampire, her boyfriend remained sane and did not try to kill her or suck her blood, but in the end, he chose to kill himself by staying out in the sun light.

After that, Stella has been living in fear of the vampires who were seeking for her
. While she was trying to let the world know about their presence.

A group of 4 (one of them a vampire- good one) then seek out Stella asking her to help them find Lilith to end this vampire spread.

One by one they died being set up by the vampires.

But as usual, in the end, the good prevailed and Stella managed to kill Lilith. During the process, she understood that vampires, although being burnt to death by the sun's UV light can actually be revive by pouring blood onto the head.

Which she did to her boyfriend who was buried in Alaska.
What happened next? She thought her boyfriend was like before. But she was wrong. He didn't recognise her and bit her. So I guess the spread of vampire continues...

Was it a nice movie? It is a budget movie, not much effects. Just cheap stuff.
Good to watch? Hmm.. ok la, just like any other vampire movie.

So what's good to watch about it? If u like blood ,then its cool lor.. here and there all blood!! hahaha...

Have you seen so much blood on your hands before?

I was totally surprised to come across this news.

What would you do if you found out your hubby possibly doing something naughty with somebody else?

Would you go to such extend to 'purify' his thing?

Never would I have thought about such things happening, but anyway, anything can happen in this world I guess.

Filial Piety

Such care and love, will it be present in the cold and harsh world? Competitiveness in this world has made many relationship very superficial. Most are made just on the basis of 'use', self gain, 'if you are of use to me, you are my friend'. Such attitude and mentality has crept into family institution too. Many just prey on own siblings, thinking their parents as burdens. What is true love and what is real care? Does it exist anymore?

I know this post is kind of late. But I think this movie really deserve a note.

Frankly, I don't really like Leonardo Dicaprio acting. I get the feeling that he 'over acts' sometimes making the movie rather unreal.

But I will give this movie a thumbs up! Reason being this movie isn't the normal "Boy meets girl, Girl loves boy, Boy likes girl, Girl dates boy, Boy marries girl, Girl haves an affair, Boy hates girl, Girl leaves boy" type of movie. I'm sure you get what I mean right?! haha.

First of all, the concept of the movie is very real. 'Dream within a dream' is real. Not just a fiction. Have you all experienced such a deep dream state before?

Another concept which is very true in the movie is that "when an idea sticks, regardless of whether it is true or not, our actions later are often influenced by the idea and it is very hard to remove the idea even though it is not real".

Try to think back, do you remember something, maybe some issue which wasn't true, but you thought it was and you just keep on believing in it?

For example, someone tells us that someone in our class is bad. Then the idea sticks. When the person approached us, we interact with caution. When we are forced to interact with the person, we are unconsciously wary too.

The concept of 'idea' can be rather dangerous in this point. Can you imagine an innocent person being framed just by someone instilling an 'idea' that the person is bad in other people?

With the philosophical discussion asides, can anyone tell me whether Copp was really awake in the end? From the start, it was preached that in order to wake up from the third level dream, you must also be awake in the other two levels of dreams. But if you remember, Copp stayed back to look for Saito who died in the second level dream.

And at the end of the movie, the totem didn't stop spinning. So? Was he really awake or was he just dreaming?

Love the way you lie

Not sure whether you guys agree with me, but I kinda think she's cute and can really sing very very well...

Sunday, October 3

I don't want to miss a thing

This song is amazingly nice. When the song first came out with Aerosmith singing it and the movie Armageddon was showing, it was a total hit. Never expected to hear a different rendition of it. It doesn't have the heavy rock feeling it, but more of the soft and sentimental longing for someone. Sweet... Enjoy...

The Kanasai Dictionary

Do you enjoy vulgarity?

Sometimes I feel vulgarity has become in some way the new trend of life among the youths. Is it a good thing or is it a bad thing?

Typing an assignment, you accidentally deleted something - F*CK!!

Drinking your tea, a few drops spilled onto your dress - S*HIT!!!

Driving your car and somebody overtakes you - KANINA U, RUSHING TO HELL AH?!

So, is vulgarity a trend? an 'in' trend? or a culture in our lives as Malaysians?

I wonder where I can buy this Vulgar Dictionary?!

Joy in Just a Pen

Just saw a story about 'Pen'.

Have you ever had problems figuring out what to buy as a gift for someone else during a birthday?

Most often, we can't really seem to figure out what to get as most people would already have most of the things. Even at a very young age, many of them would already possess things which many of us only have it at a later stage in life.

Look at primary school kids, they already have hi-tech mobiles, playstation 3, X-box 360, etc. So what can you still get for them?

An author when going on a vacation to Tibet was told by his friend to bring more pens/pencils on the trip. At first, he was curious about the reason behind this. He thought, maybe it was hard to get pens in the area and his friend just wanted him to be able continue writing even during vacation.

During the trip, the author noticed something different. For the many places which he has visited. The kids often gather around you with their hands right in front of you asking for money and a desperate look.

But in Tibet, the kids weren't like these. Instead, they just walk behind you, smiling at you. They looked poor. Yet they were very different from those kids you can see in places like India for example. They don't beg for money. The author felt the need to give them something, but not sure what. In the end, he took out his pens and pencils and gave it to them. Instantly, he could see their joy in receiving those stationery. Only then, he understood what his friend meant.

The children there, unlike others have not much opportunity to go to schools for a proper education, to study and to write. Pen or pencils, to us are things we can buy in bulk from stores, but to them, is something near to priceless, which they enjoy using for learning.

A lot of times, we have so much things in our lives that we kind of forget the joy in having the simplest of things.

We forget that even a simple pen, can also be very precious in some way, it can encompass our sincerity in presenting it as a gift, it can also carry creativity and the passion to learn.

A blogger said: Murderers are actually good people?

I was reading a blog recently which tells a story about a murderer who killed the entire family of a child. The interesting part about this blog post was it stated that the murderer was not wrong in doing so. The reason behind this is: because of what the murderer did, the boy grew up working his best to become successful and then contributed a lot in terms of crime prevention.

Before I go on, I state here that I am not saying that the thinking of the author is wrong.

But I have another point of view towards this story:
1. How sure can we be that if the murderer did not kill the boy’s entire family, the boy will not work hard in life and be a successful person?
2. How certain are we that the boy when he grew up will not contribute towards better crime prevention?
3. How positive are we in saying that the boy’s success is totally dependent on the actions of the murderer?

If the murderer did not kill the boy’s family, does that mean the boy wouldn’t have understood the importance of crime prevention? Why the success of the boy later in life must be dependent on the cruel event?

If the boy were to live happily with his family, being cared and loved, being taught of the right moral values and principles, would he not still be righteous later as an adult?

Hmm… There seems to be a lot of ‘if’ here… I think the notion to suggest that the killer’s action is right because it caused the boy to be strong and successful in life is rather *I’m lost of words; not sure how to describe*, let’s say ‘illogical’…

Whether an action is right or wrong, in my opinion, for this case of murder should be considered at that point-of-time. It is wrong for the murderer to rob and kill his family (in fact, anybody). It is unlawful/immoral/against ethics for the murderer to commit a crime. Simple as that.

If we were to always, take a long and winding path and painstakingly linked every single success to a crime done by criminal, then we might as well just let all the killers and robbers roam the streets because they make people stronger after having a bad experience being robbed or family or friends being killed. In other words, all the crooks and now saints because of what they did.

Again, I would like to emphasize I’m not saying the author is wrong in saying what he said, I’m just saying that the notion isn’t very ‘sound’ to me.

What do you guys think?

Life is about correcting mistakes

Jocelyn married William this day. At the end of the wedding party, Jocelyn's mother gave her a newly opened bank saving passbook. With $1000 deposit amount.

Mother: 'Jocelyn, take this passbook. Keep it as a record of your marriage life. When there's something happy and memorable happened in your new life, put some money in. Write down what it's about next to the line. The more memorable the event is, the more money you can put in. I've done the first one for you today. Do the others with William. When you look back after years, you can know how much happiness you've had.'

Jocelyn shared this with William when getting home. They both thought it was a great idea and were anxious to know when the second deposit can be made.

This was what they did after certain time:

- 7 Feb: $100, first birthday celebration for William after marriage
- 1 Mar: $300, salary raise for Jocelyn
- 20 Mar: $200, vacation trip to Bali
- 15 Apr: $2000, Jocelyn got pregnant
- 1 Jun: $1000, William got promoted

.... and so on...

However, after years, they started fighting and arguing for trivial things. They didn't talk much. They regretted that they had married the most nasty people in the world.... no more love...Kind of typical nowadays, huh?

One day Jocelyn talked to her Mother: 'Mom, we can't stand it anymore. We agree to divorce. I can't imagine how I decided to marry this guy!!!'

Mother: 'Sure, girl, that's no big deal. Just do whatever you want if you really can't stand it. But before that, do one thing first. Remember the saving passbook I gave you on your wedding day? Take out all money and spend it first. You shouldn't keep any record of such a poor marriage.'

Jocelyn thought it was true. So she went to the bank, waiting at the queue and planning to cancel the account. While she was waiting, she took a look at the passbook record. She looked, and looked, and looked. Then the memory of all the previous joy and happiness just came up her mind. Her eyes were then filled with tears. She left and went home. When she was home, she handed the passbook to William, asked him to spend the money before getting divorce.

The next day, William gave the passbook back to Jocelyn. She found a new deposit of $5000. And a line next to the record: 'This is the day I notice how much I've loved you thru out all these years. How much happiness you've brought me.'

They hugged and cried, putting the passbook back to the safe. Do you know how much money they had saved when they retired? I did not ask. I believe the money did not matter any more after they had gone thru all the good years in their life.

"When you fall, don't see the place where you fell, instead see the place from where you slipped. Life is about correcting mistakes."

Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time

Just watch Prince of Persia (PoP) recently during the winter break. I kind of like the movie a lot. Ok, ok, anybody who knows me would say I'm bias on this movie because I like the PoP game on PS2!! Haha... Who doesn't??!?! If you are a PS2 guy, you would definitely love this game! The graphic is nice, the movement of the character is superb! The variation of fighting techniques around is 'chun' man!! haha... But one thing about it is, the bloody sand always run out before I manage to conquer the game! hahaha.. yea yea, you guys going to say I'm lousy at this game! haha.. but then, everytime I want to re-play the game, I keep thinking about assignments, so what to do! hahaha.. sure go piah the assignments laa...

By the way, if I'm not mistaken, this game goes wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back when Information Technology started! Haha.. According to my cousin bro laa, he is a computer tech-ky guy.. haha... Maybe since the start of Windows 95 or even before it, this game Prince of Persia was already around. So it is an EPIC!!!!
Ok, now about the movie. Before you guys start worrying that because you've never played the game and so you can't understand the movie. No worries! because it starts from the very beginning of the origin of the prince! haha.. So, you need not any prior knowledge. Basically the prince isn't a prince but an adopted orphan by the king from the streets.
But obviously, this guy turned out to be a person with the heart of a prince! Haha... Amazing right?! He has superb fighting skills! Better than Jackie Chan lor!!

What I like about the story is: "Follow you heart"

Yup, the catch phrase! I think the part of the story which I love most is the fact that though the Prince of Persia (Not the real prince) and the real Prince are not blood siblings, they got very closed to each other. And at doubt, they can follow their heart to believe and trust each others to protect and save each others.

I hope that this is not too much to ask from my close friends!! Hahaha... But yea, I guess in all relationships including friendships, trust is an important ingredient.

What is malaria?

Ever wonder what is malaria?

Well, for those who are interested in infectious diseases, let me share a little bit about it with you guys. Not that I know a lot about it though.

Well, basically, malaria is a blood disease which is caused by a protoctist called Plasmodium. Plasmodium can actually cause this disease in a variety of organisms including reptiles, birds, not just humans.

For humans, the Plasmodium species which causes infection are P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae and P. knowlesi.

An interesting thing to note is P. knowlesi is actually a zoonosis meaning it naturally infects animals which is the macaques but has been recently to be found to infect humans too. And the main malaria cause in Malaysia is actually, P. knowlesi.

P. falciparum is the leading cause of fatality in malaria. Unlike it, the rest causes relatively mild disease which involves febrile symptoms.

Currently there is no vaccine for this disease. Sadly, 1 million people die annually due to this infection. And 25% of the number are children under the age of 5. Amazingly, there is 300million cases of infection annually too.

Malaria is among the top infectious disease killers around the world comparable to tuberculosis and HIV.

There is always this chicken and egg story. Poverty causes the problem in solving the malarial problem. At the same time, malaria causes poverty in the countries which are suffering severely from this disease. Is it possible to really eradicate this disease?

Should more research be carried out in this field??

Living at present

Some people say we should live in the present and not in the past. Meaning, to look forward rather than what has happened. Though this is a good attitude as we can't really change what has happened.

But excessively practicing such attitude, is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Think this way, something bad happened, you did something wrong. But you practice this attitude and say you want to look forward. When problem crops up again, and you do that again, does that show that you are shunting away from the responsibility? As in are you trying to run away from the fact you need to acknowledge that you have done something wrong? And correct the mistake?

Many of us have ego, so do I, in mandarin "爱面子", sometimes it really is hard to bow a little and say "Yea, it was my fault". I'm not saying that we should verbally express these words, but what I'm saying is we should acknowledge the fault rather than continuing with a 'perfect image' as though we have done nothing wrong at all.

If such situation persists, what would others think? Are you trustworthy? Are you reliable?

Everyone would love a perfect story book in for their life, without errors, without stains, but that never happens. That's why books have editor, most often panels of editors. In life, the editors are our friends. The ones who stand by us when we are challenged, the one who corrects our spelling error and sentence structure in our book.

If there's a mistake and we just go on for the second page and others look at the earlier pages, what would happen?

Living at present is good, but excessively, it shows a different side of the story.

Exam over, results are out...

Exam is over for Yanyan and I.

Amazingly, results are out very fast and surprisingly, most of the class got either H1 (A) or H2A (A-).

Tell me, how do you guys think about this result? There are only two extreme marks!!! OMG, how are we going to distinguish ourselves from each other academically???

Then again, I'm really shocked and happy by what my supervisor said to me:-

"Everything about you is a H1 to me, now we just need to convince the panel that you are a H1 student"

Now that really made me sleepless!! It made me so happy that my efforts did not go unnoticed but at the same time, I feel some guilt coz I know I can do better. Will be trying very hard in the remaining 5 months to do my best!! haha...

Buddha Day@Federation Square

May 16th and 17th was the Buddha Day in Melbourne. I guess it was held in conjunction with the Vesak Day which was two weeks ago.
We can see clearly the day was blessed with clear sky and a holy sun to keep everyone warm and happy. (1130am)
This is the vegetarian lane. Whatever you want, you can get a vegetarian version of it, got chicken rice, duck, anything! It was amazing!!!
Main event: The bathing of the Buddha ceremony. Everybody was queuing up for this. It was really a long queue.
Though it was Buddha Day. There were also other cultural activity. The theme was generally Buddhism bringing harmony across cultural boundaries!!
The Goddess of Mercy prayer alter. I prayed here when there wasn't many people around. It really felt good. Got some sort of unexplainable sense of calmness and 'good' feeling.
The main alter up close.
Everybody was praying that day as you can see. Hmmm.. Nice rainbow'ish lighting.. hehe
Main entrance...
Main entrance statue also...
The queue getting longer over time...
Mexican dance!! haha... Kinda weird having this on Buddha Day, but rather interesting!!
Queue getting longer, crowd getting larger as the day goes by!!! (Now is 3pm)
Another view of the Alter everybody is queuing up for.
Bodhi Tree: Write your wish on a leave and stick it here, hope it will come true.. hehe..

Am I spineless just because I apologise?

When something goes wrong, do we apologize or do we keep mum about it and act as though nothing happened?

Some people have a tendency to refer the latter as 'living-at-present' meaning things have happened, you can't change the fact it has happened, so might as well we just look ahead and move on. (This is another good topic to discuss in a later post)

The maiden post of this blog entitled "Choose what is right, not what is easy" is a lesson shared by Master Yoda, the Grandmaster Jedi in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Season 2).

Deep down within us, there is always this 'pride' or 'ego' which often tells us to be the best in our image. So often, it prevents us from saying "I'm Sorry". It deems apologizing as an act which shows you have a weakness, you have made a mistake, you are not perfect.

Such inner pride may sometimes be so strong that many of us often succumb to it and walk away from problems which we've caused and leaving these mistakes aside so that it seems like we have no play in them, as in we are innocent.

But is this the right way? An acquaintance once told me "You should never show your weakness to others". She said that when I apologized to a friend. She assume apologizing as showing that I have a weakness.

So when I apologizing to someone, am I actually embarrassing myself? Am I showing that I have my weak points? Am I living in the past rather than in the present?

Or am I just willing to take responsibility of what has been done by me?

If something happened, and everyone assume no responsibility, will the problem be resolved? Will it go away? Maybe after awhile, everybody will forget what has happened, but is that the main point? Or is acknowledging our weakness more important and trying to solve the problem and make a better future the main point?

Buying Leaked A'level Exam Questions Isn't Cheating!!

I've always known that growing in a different environment, mixing with different groups of friends, family upbringing, formal education received all contribute towards what we believe in and practice in our daily lives.

Recently, I popped by a blog and had an interesting discussion with a blogger called Bryan.

The topic was on whether "Buying Leaked Exam Question Papers" was wrong?

As you can see from the picture, he doesn't think it is wrong and it is not considered as cheating.

Well, I'm not going to say Bryan is wrong. I find the discussion really interesting as it shows that people living in different environment, interacting with different groups of friends really have different mentality, very different indeed.

To Bryan, he defined cheating during exam as an act which is done in the exam venue such as copying, bringing in notes, etc, whereas the buying of leaked exam papers are not considered as cheating, neither it is wrong.

To me, the main point of the examination is to assess your understanding of the particular subject. If you already got hold of the questions beforehand, then what is the point of the assessment?

So, to me, the act of buying leaked exam papers is wrong and it is an act of cheating. But I guess that's because I grew up in a different environment from Bryan and his friends.

I've mentioned this matter to a close friend's mother. The first thing she said is she did not know about the real exam paper being sold. If she knew, she would have bought the papers for his son during his A' level so that he could score all A's because the most important thing is to obtain the A's, it doesn't really matter if he had to resort to buying the leaked papers. (NOTE: the leaked papers referred here, are the exact papers used during the real examination)

What is your take on this? Right or wrong?

PS: No offense to Bryan, this post's emphasis in on the different mentality we have. His blog is really interesting to read, just click here to read his blog.

I Quarrelled With My Boss

Right and wrong has always been something very clear cut to me since young. Whatever is right is always right for me, so is for what is wrong.

Unfortunately, I was told off by someone recently saying that whatever I think is not important because even if I think it is right but the other people think it is wrong. Then I will be perceived as wrong to everyone regardless of how I try to explain myself.

The question now: Do you dare to stand up to what is right?

Many people would say "Yea, he is wrong", "It is his fault since he did that", "He shouldn't have done such thing". But how many would actually stand up and say it out loud? Sadly, very few, in fact, none. They will always just whisper at the background.

Weijie's Case

Boss scolding Weijie: "If you can't even do such simple things, then please leave, please la, please leave, I really have no time to waste, I really just cannot teach people like you"

Me: "It's his first time doing the experiment, it's ok that it didn't turn out the way it should, just let him try again, he is learning"

Boss: "NO!!!! I can't waste my time on such people, I got other things to do, I can't be sitting here whole day checking on him"

Me: "Well, it's just his first try, he has never done the experiment, you can't blame him entirely, it's normal, just let him try a few more times, it should be fine"

I only knew Weijie for two days, but I stood up for him against my boss. I could have got fired by my boss as she didn't like it when people go against her. But I felt that Weijie shouldn't be blamed entirely for the screwed results from the experiment. He just started lab work for 2 days, he is still very fresh, he should be given the chance to learn.

Darya's Case

Boss quarreled with Darya earlier, and was searching through Darya's drawers: "This is my stuff, how can she keep it, is she going to take it with her?? This is too much!!! I will sue her"

Me: "This is not yours, it is Darya's. She brought it here with her when she came over from the US"

Boss: "NO NO NO!! I'm sure it's mine, it's all mine, she is stealing"

Me: "I don't think she is stealing anything, because it is really her personal belonging, if you open it, you will notice it is just notes on her experiments in the US, nothing to do with the work over here"

Again and again, I saw injustice. I spoke up. I put myself in danger and my job on the line just to save others. Why? Just because I think it is the right thing to do and the people who were blamed weren't wrong at all.

Many would say I'm stupid for putting myself in danger. But have you gave some thought, what if you are the one in the hot soup and it wasn't your fault, would you want someone to help you? How would you feel if you know everyone just wants to be a spectator in the situation rather than giving you a hand?

Choose what is right, not what is easy.

How often do we find the thin line which separates right from wrong blurred in our eyes? What is right and what is wrong? Are they just simple words or do they mean something in reality?

Most often, something which is wrong, is also something which is easy. Most probably it makes our lives easy in some way which in turn benefits us.

But how to we define 'right'? Based on moral values, principles and ethics? Do we look at Confucius' teachings to decide what is correct and what is not? Do we look at our religion to decide what is right from wrong?

Do we say running a red light is right, just because it make our lives easy by not having to wait another minute or two at the junction or just because we weren't caught in an accident or just because we weren't caught by the police officer?

Do we say using leaked exam questions or paying to obtain these exam papers as right just because it may give us the edge over others in scoring in the exams?

Do we say abandoning a friend to save our on skin as right because we saved ourselves regardless of what happened to our friends?

Do we say lying to everyone else that we are helping a friend while we actually left the person in a lurch as right just because we managed to protect our image as being a nice person in front of other friends?

Right and wrong. How do we define them? Whether we define them correctly or not, is it dependent on our own mentality? Or the social circle which we grew up in? Or the upbringing which our family exposed us to? Or the religious teaching which we followed? Or the formal education we received?

Do we do what is right? Or do we choose to do what is easy?
